We have received feed back about our logo and that the symbol we use today looks sad and should look less sad since the result of our job is happy kids.

We are looking for volunteers

Featured

Hi,

SoulKids is an organization that works with street children in Nairobi, Kenya. SoulKids is a nonprofit organization that works with voluntary work for street children. The organization is financed through donations and sponsors, all money goes directly to the work with children and so far we haven’t had to charge any administrative fees in addition to bank charges. SoulKids have concentrated on children’s rights, awareness campaigns, health care and activities for children.

Now the dream of starting an orphanage is becoming a reality. We’re on the go and are now looking for volunteers who are interested in realizing this dream. You must be interested about the work with street children and have an ability to work independently and in groups. We are looking for someone who is dedicated and dependable, who enjoys working with children with a difficult childhood.

It is important that the volunteer is determined and able to stay focused on work, and that this person is happy and positive and like children. Ideally we are looking for one or two who have some experience of both working life and work with children.

The volunteer will be offered a unique experience of work and life in the Third World and the slums. Introduction to the job will be provided and regular supervision. The work will consist of assisting the children in the morning and possibly ensure that they get to school, be there when the children return from school and be there at the dinner cooking and everyday life after school. Ensure that rules and structures are maintained. There may be some other work during the day while the kids are in school which may include a visit to parents, government or other tasks that may arise.

It costs 2000 SEK per month to be a volunteer and that includes breakfast, dinner and accommodation. We prefer a volunteer who can stay for a longer period of time.

To learn more, contact us at sandra@soulkids.nu. If you are interested, write a little about yourself and your experience, plus a little bit about your expectations.

New website

Those of you who have been with us since the start can see that we have renewed our website. The ambition is to publish a monthly newsletter that summarizes what happens to the SoulKids in Nairobi. In addition we want to post other information about everyday activities that we accomplish with the children. With the new website we have better opportunities to publish such news, otherwise we have until now been more active on our Facebook page. Check that out as well! See former post.
What information would you prefer to read about our work with the SoulKids?

Facebook

We have a page on Facebook – but we also have a group! Please join us on Facebook but do choose to join the “page” since Facebook is removing groups from their system. The “group” is still available since their archiving process takes time. Click on the Facebook logo to go there.

Happy new year 2012!

SoulKids would like to wish all of our supporters, friends and children a very happy and prosperous 2012 and say thank you for all the encouragement and support in 2011. We couldn’t have done this without you! ♥

Improved centre, happier children

“Jag har hørt från barnen att sedan vi kom har centret blivit mycket bættre! Barnen blir inte slagna længre och standarden på maten och uppehællet ær mycket bættre! Sånt ær kul att høra!!”

Sandra explains in norwegian that the children who live in the centre tells her that living in the centre is much better after SoulKids started to involve. They say they’re not getting physically abused anymore and that the quality of their food has improved. We are very happy to hear that our prescence makes a difference.

Thank you for Christmas

We had a Christmas dinner for the kids today! Were cooking all day! Bought them presents. A DVD player, basketball, baskets for the ball and footballs. The kids loved it!! They were jumping for joy and I want to thank all the people who donated money so that we could make this christmas for them! We will continue tomorrow with some games and snacks!

Need of firewood to cook food

The kids hasn`t had any firewood these last few days and has gone hungry until we have shown up. Once it was too late to start to cook, so we came with some bread, cookies, chips and tea. The kids were very grateful! As I said in one of the discussions here, I can`t understand how an institution like this can suddendly find themselves without firewood! Someone must be in charge to get the kids what they need??
