Completed: Lecture about sports, mental training and nutrition – 17th March, Gothenburg

Ironman Majorna (Gothenburg, Sweden) is a well renowned martial arts club that has been active for many years. They have several times donated money and things for the SoulKids and we are grateful for their ongoing support.

They have scheduled a lecture which will be held on Saturday 17 March. It is about mental training and nutrition. You can sign up via their Facebook event linked to below. Notice that it is still possible to sign up even if you read something else. The lecture costs 100 kr and all proceeds will be donated to the SoulKids!

Mobile phones and a big surprise!

This was a an event not directed directly towards our kids but to help out the community with its adults to elevate the possiblities for them to run their own companies, which indirectly means supporting children in their families.

We have received the donated mobile phones now and placed them in the hands of their new happy owners – the number is fantastic 39 mobile phones! We are so happy, thank you for your support and quick actions to donate.

Moa, who you’ve met if you donated phones, also brought eight bags of clothes donated by  a Scandinavian clothing store called KappAhl (located in Angered Centrum, Gothenburg). We, staff and the kids, appreciate this so much.

Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts,

Team SoulKids

Art Workshop

There’s been some football activities lately, but not all kids are into that! So last week we had an ”Art Workshop” for the kids. To help us, we had the very skilled Christine to inspire the kids. The children were great once they got started and they drew with both colored pencils, crayons and oil colors given as a gift from swedish sponsor Gun.

The children have been designing and putting up pictures over their beds so the bedroom should feel a little more personal. Their first task was to draw what they wanted to work as when they become adults. One boy draws an airplane! Others drew taxis, police, buses, guards, etc.

Christine also did face painting for boys.

Movie night with Madagascar

Projecting a movie on the wall (camera flash wipes it out!)

We also had a movie night yesterday where we showed Madagascar. We bought some lollipops and sweets. Used the projector that Morten has donated and showed it on the wall at the center. The kids liked it a lot! It also lets them stay up a bit longer. Otherwise they are forced to bed at eight.

We are going over to the center tomorrow to check if they have any more firewood, and that they filled up their water tank.

Football training with a gift from sponsors

A football tournament is approaching so the boys are training with coach Martin. Playing football is a popular activity among the boys - which is why we and the boys are so happy for a gift which Maria and Kalle brought with them from a group of sponsors. It was soccer gear: balls, shorts, goalkeeper clothing and shoes!

Thank you for your contributions, they are well received!

First time to meet the children

I met the children for the first time yesterday. Gave them t-shirts donated by Böler Tigrene. The kids were wearing them proudly! They are playing football against another team on Saturday, and because we don`t have the footballgear here yet(coming with Kerstin) the kids are gonna use the nice t-shirts.

We told the kids about SoulKids and our project, and that they are now the SoulKids, and they are so proud to have that name! We found three guys who are volunteering at the center who are now joining us in the work with these children. They have a fire burning for these kids, and we are sure that we are standing stronger with them on our team.

It feels great to finally be here and start this work! Kalle and Maria has also been introduced to SoulKids, and we are excited about having them on board as well. We can see that the children are hopefull and excited about this.
